We’ve come to the end of the “Create a Home You Love” series! Naturally I thought it would be perfect to share some final thoughts on how to create more joy in your home.
In my “Create a Home You Love” series I discussed creating a specific feeling throughout each room in your home, individually. But how your home feels overall is equally an important subject to touch on.
Having a joyful home can enhance all areas of your life. It can increase your gratitude which in turn increases levels of prosperity, connection and happiness. Joy will create happier and more fulfilling relationships and as a result cause you to feel healthier and make healthier choices for yourself and your family.
So, how do you create more joy in your home & Your Life?
Here’s my tips:
1 – Embrace your own nature.
Especially when it comes to clutter and organization. Right now we are embracing a culture that is super big on simplicity and finding joy in living with less and while I can agree with that perspective in theory, I believe like any trend it has its flaws.
In my work and in my life I have come to realize that clutter and having a lot of things isn’t as big of an issue as it might seem. The real issue comes from what’s behind the clutter.
The questions to ask are:
- Why is my clutter overwhelming me?
- For what reason do I prefer to keep these items?
- Do I need them, or do they bring me something (an emotion, safety or comfort)?
The truth is that if you look deeply into the reason behind your things, why you have them and why they might be disorganized and in disarray you will find out more about yourself and what your connection to your things really is. Shining the light on the “behind-the-scenes” issues will help you live with what you really want and get rid of what you don’t.
Bottom line being that if you love your things, feel connected to them and enjoy having them around there is no reason to give them up or feel guilty for living in “excess”. I have realized there is a true connection between ourselves, our things and our own abundance. If your things represent joy and abundance to you, by all means keep them and don’t feel guilty about it for one second. What they represent to you is the key factor. Thus, by allowing a connection of joy and love between yourself and your things you attract more abundance, joy and happiness into your life and the lives of others.
2 – Let your kids run wild!
Having the joy of children laughing and playing in your home increases the joy in your home overall.
Let them make a mess and then make a game out of cleaning up. When my daughter doesn’t want to clean I have her put on some music and dance while cleaning or get her favorite doll to help her clean up. This makes it fun for her and she will actually do it!
The other thing is make cleaning up easy for your kids with bins and baskets for their things so they can just throw their toys in and be done.
3 – Entertain
Having family and friends over for lunch, dinner or special occasions super charges the joy in your home.
You don’t need an absolutely perfect home to entertain; if it feels joyful your visitors will want to return over and over.
Each time you choose to invite loved ones over for fun you draw in more life into your home, more joy, more abundance, more of everything!
4 – Increase Joy with Color
Different colors can create different emotions, some colors can cause us to feel sad, some make us feel happy, some inspire creativity and some motivate us.
Color can make all the difference in how a home feels, so a good place to start is by adding accents within your home in colors that make you feel joyful.

5 – Make Joy the focus of your home
What you focus on you receive more of; by making Joy the overall focus of your home you will be drawn to opportunities and circumstances that will aid you in creating more.
There it is! Super simple ways to increase joy in your home and in your life.
