good nights sleep

I don’t know what it is but as you get older the quality of a good nights sleep can greatly decrease. Maybe its hormones, or aches and pains, or maybe its the thoughts and worries of a stressful day that keep you up at night. No matter what it is here are some great ways to be sure you get fabulous quality sleep every single night!

Here are my tips for creating good Nights sleep!

1. Turn off the TV and pick up a good book!

I always read for at least 30 minutes before I go to sleep and it works wonders. If I watch TV before bed I end up with broken sleep all night long…I think it has to do with the blue screen light that emits from a TV or Computer. It can be really hard on your eyes and end up stressing you out.

If you turn the TV off about an hour before you go to sleep there are a few things that happen: First, you give yourself time to relax and prepare for sleep which ends up leading to falling asleep faster. Second the quality of your sleep is better and you don’t end up waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall back asleep.

I like to read inspiring books before I go to sleep because it quiets my stressful thoughts and leaves me with juicy good feelings and thoughts which helps me fall asleep faster.
I recommend any book by Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, and the like. Books that are spiritual by nature and help inspire you!

2. Do some yoga stretches!

I made up my own little asana for a good nights sleep but any stretch you love doing that puts you in the moment will do the trick.

I carry most of my stress in my shoulders and hips so these are the areas I focus on before going to bed. Pay attention to your body and where you keep your stress. If you wake up in the middle of the night with aches and pains in certain areas then focus on stretching those areas out before you go to sleep.

3. Take a bath with Lavender and Epsom salts

(read my post here on the benefits of Epsom Salts)

Lavender is very relaxing, it helps your body de-stress and prepares you for sleep. Epsom Salts have the same effect due to their high magnesium content and combined with the warmth of your bath will relieve aches and pains in your body.  When used regularly Epsom Salts have the ability to normalize hormone levels.

4. Try BP Balance

(Buy it Here) BP Balance works wonders for stress, like when your mind keeps running and you can’t shut it off. It’s actually for high blood pressure but I found that it works fabulously for putting me to sleep. I have tried other natural sleep aids that are specifically for sleep and they always make me feel like crap…think Valerian Root or Melatonin.

There are absolutely no side effects with BP Balance, it puts you right to sleep and you wake up feeling great! Within 15 minutes of taking 1 little pill I’m out like a light all night long!

5. This might be the Big one!

Make sure your room is clean and there’s nothing on the floor before you go to bed. A messy room will directly impact the quality of your sleep! This is a Feng Shui concept that I have used for years and really makes all the difference. The idea is that when your room is picked up and feels good (like a sacred space) the energy can freely flow while you sleep resulting in higher quality rest that leaves you feeling awesome.
