I am all about creating comfort. No matter what I go through in life, no matter how hard it is, I will find a way to create comfort for myself and my loved ones.

Comfort in its original Latin means “To Strengthen Greatly”. How awesome is that? We find strength when we provide ourselves with comfort, its not an option its a necessity!

That being said, I do believe that no matter what, life will make us uncomfortable; its part of how we grow and strengthen our character. Being uncomfortable is not a bad thing but if we don’t balance those growing pains out with comfort in our physical lives we miss out on all the beautiful lessons that come through the rough patches.

So here are a few ways to offer yourself comfort for your Home, Body and Soul!

Creating Comfort in the Home:

  • Blankets!!

Soft blankets and throws are a good way to cozy up and relax. This is vital in my opinion and I have a bit of a serious blanket addiction. Soft, cozy blankets give a feeling of luxury which helps us relax and feel warm – both outside and inside.

  • Light those Candles

Low lighting and candles provide a sense of warmth and coziness which equals comfort. Candles also come in a wide variety of relaxing scents. (I’ve got my lavender one going right now!) Other good scents are Rose, Peony, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Bergamot.

  • De-Clutter!

I’ve said this many times but having a de-cluttered home provides a relaxing environment and offers you comfort over stress. Keeping your home de-cluttered is key in providing a supportive and comfortable environment. (Read more on that here)

Creating Comfort for the Body:

  • Bust out that Robe and Slippers

A cozy Saturday afternoon with a soft robe and a pair of MukLuks is literally like the best thing on earth. Try it and see how much better you feel!

  • Eat the Comfort Food

There’s a reason they call it comfort food and its because its comforting! (obvi!) But it doesn’t have to be bad for you. First off I am firm believer that how you perceive food is how it will affect your body. If you are eating that delish fried chicken thinking its going to make you gain 5 lbs. well then it probably will. That being said there is no better comfort food for me than tea sandwiches, berry tea and a fruit platter. But I also can’t get enough fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I let my body decide and tell my mind to accept it! So decide what kind of food brings you comfort and eat more of it – no matter what it is!

  • Get Movin’!

Movement for your body doesn’t have to feel like exercise. It can be light meditative stretching, taking a mindful walk around the neighborhood or dancing with your kids. Daily movement provides a sense of well being.

Creating Comfort for the Soul:

  • Journal it out!

My soul is so happy when I am writing, but especially when I am getting my innermost thoughts down on paper. I highly recommend doing “The Work” outlined by Byron Katie. It has done wonders for my creativity and releasing mental clutter I didn’t even know was affecting my life.

  • Align those Chakras!

Daily prayer and Chakra aligning are two of my fave things. This is a daily spiritual practice that makes all the difference. I wrote a little book with my own Chakra aligning practice which you can download free here.

  • Read all the books

I love reading so much! I have a library card no matter what city I am living in just so I can go and rent 20 books and read them. It’s so much fun and doesn’t cost a dime. Plus I get to learn and grow at the same time.

Creating comfort isn’t just for yourself, you can do it for others too and the cool thing is when you provide comfort for others it gives you the same effect. Here are some ways to give comfort to others (or yourself).

  • Buy fresh flowers
  • Breakfast in bed
  • Foot Massage
  • Play board games
  • Donate unused blankets to the homeless shelter
  • Read to your kids
  • Pizza night (eat it on the floor while you watch a movie)
  • Bubble Bath
  • Spa Night (masks, pedicure/manicure, etc)

Creating comfort is about connection and fun. No matter what you are going through all of these things will lift your spirits and give you strength to see it through!
